Our last visit before the break was to Thompson Farms. Thompson Farms is a family operation. JR, Sandy, John and Johnna all work in the farm operation each having their specialty area. Johnna stressed to the group the importance of Community Involvement. Fostering connections will help the operation grow and improve. Developing sustainable practices such as Farm Diversification (growing different crops while practicing different growing techniques ) must happen to sustain the farm operation. The group was very interested in their approach to telling their story. Telling their story through pictures helps as they reach out to land owners to develop partnerships. Employee retention had always been important to Thompson Farms. Taking care of your work force can increase productivity. Visiting with Thompson Farms was such a positive experience for the Lawrence County CEO group. The group learned many practices they will use as they start their own businesses.
